Let us not blow hot and cold, we must assure the President of our support as a region: PCS Mudavadi
The Western Kenya region are now being called upon to be decisive and firm in their decision to support President William Ruto and his agenda for the nation.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged the region to demonstrate true patriotism as a people and stand their ground in working together with government.
He says they stand a better chance to benefit from President Ruto’s administration as compared to the previous regimes which he says did not prioritize the needs of the people of Western Kenya. “Let us not blow hot and cold at the same time. We need to assure the President and his government that we are fully behind him and we will support the transformation agenda he has envisaged for this country.” he stated. “We should be aware that President Ruto means well for our region and that is the reason why he has created time, and out of his tight schedule, come to listen to us, reason with us and talk to us about how we should move along together on matters development.” added Mudavadi. He was speaking during a leaders meeting held at State Lodge Kakamega, Wednesday, a meeting that brought together thousands of local representatives from the five counties of Vihiga, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia and Trans Nzoia. The meeting that was convened by President Ruto was to mark the culmination of the 5-day tour of Western Kenya region where the leaders through the governors of presented various memoranda for consideration by the President. “I want to thank President William Ruto and the team that has made this tour a success. We held a key cabinet meeting here in Kakamega at the heart of the Mulembe nation and I want to assure our people that to of the Cabinet agenda were issues relating to our region.” said Mudavadi.
Mudavadi urged the people of Western Kenya to emulate what other regions are focusing on as far as unity of purpose is concerned saying the ultimate goal should be how will the locals benefit from the distribution of the national resources. He said the cake is in the hands of President Ruto and it is high time the region embraces collective unity through the leaders and together with Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula, they are ambassadors of the region on the negotiating table.
“We need to build from where we are and move forward as a people. Let us be truthful, honest and work hard to develop our region. The way the U.S Ambassador to Kenya said that internationally many people have started asking why Africa and Why Kenya, here we need to make sure people begin to ask themselves why Western Kenya since we are on course and we have to get it right this time round under President Ruto.” said Mudavadi.
He was categorical that the parliamentary leadership from the region should keep an eye on the budget making process as the national cake is being distributed. He commended the Members of Parliament from the region for being focused and steadfast during the Presidents’ tour saying irrespective of their political affiliations they have demonstrated maturity and readiness to work with government for the better. “I want to encourage leaders to put the interests of the citizens first before self and personal gratifying interests. We need to think about the future of our region, our youth and our development. We must be deliberate and intentional in creating jobs and opportunities for our people.” he stated.
“Let us be very serious and pragmatic when it comes to budgeting, otherwise the rest of the other country is not waiting for us.” he said. Mudavadi said the meeting the beginning of what he referred to as Sauls’ biblical journey to Damascus telling the people of Western Kenya that from today they should be transformed and be completely changed to look into the future with hope and determination. “I wonder when I see some of us here behaving like they are more Azimio than the real owners of Azimio themselves. The President is around and some sections of our people are still behaving as if they haven’t acquainted themselves with reality.” he said.
“Let this meeting be the second EARTHQUAKE for the people of Western Kenya. Let this be a game changer in the way we articulate and execute our issues and how we address our challenges. Let us rise above petty politics and unnecessary humour and be serious because there is no time to waste.” added Mudavadi.
He emphasized that elections are long gone, and nothing can change now and urged them to desist from engaging in petty politics. “Long are the days when you had to work hard to make your colleague look bad in the eyes of the public for you to appear to be good. Cementing the unity of purpose is what will take us forward. Tuwachane na hang-over za uchaguzi na mambo ya fitina.” he said.
The leaders later accompanied President Ruto at the ground breaking ceremony for the County aggregation and industrial park project for Kakamega in Sinoko, Likuyani.\
