PS attends Bomet County Inaugural Digital and Tech Conference
Bomet County was today abuzz with innovation as it hosted its very first Digital and Tech Conference, a groundbreaking event that took place at the Bomet Green Stadium.
The conference brings together over 90 tech innovators, offering them a platform to showcase their work and engage with potential business partners and government representatives.
This two-day conference, which embraces both in-person and hybrid formats, is a collaborative effort between the Nation Media Group and the Bomet County government. Its primary aim is to unite forward-thinking minds and tech enthusiasts across various disciplines to tackle real-world challenges through technology-driven solutions.
During the official launch of the conference, Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary of the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, emphasized the government's commitment to technological advancements. He noted that the government's plans include establishing a software factory at Mulot.
"We are thrilled to witness such a remarkable initiative led by one of our esteemed media houses. The media has set an excellent example, and we anticipate a promising future. There is a growing demand for talent, services, and digital products," said Eng. Tanui.
Eng. Tanui also highlighted the government's dedication to building a digital superhighway and economy. It aims to provide free WiFi hotspots in various wards across the country, ensuring widespread connectivity.
Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs CPA Ms. Aurelia Chepkirui Rono, commended the Ministry of ICT for its technological achievements. She pledged her department's commitment to enacting appropriate legislation to further bolster the digital economy.
PS Rono also stressed the government's dedication to enhancing the education sector and generating employment opportunities for the youth. This commitment was recently demonstrated by the conversion of 13 TVET institutions into national polytechnics.
Prof. Hillary Barchok, Bomet County Governor, disclosed that the county government has already secured land for the software company, with plans for its handover to the national government in progress.
The event was graced by other distinguished guests, including County Commissioner Dr. Ahmed Omar and Kenneth Oyalo, Chief Commercial Officer of Nation Media Group.
Key sub-themes at the conference include the launch of a software factory in Bomet, a Ministry of ICT initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide in the county. The Mulot area, in particular, has been identified as a promising hub for future software engineers.
