HRMAC induction course
The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs, CPA Ms. Aurelia Rono, today, addressed the State Department’s members of the Human Resource Management Advisory Committee (HRMAC) and Secretariat during their Induction Course at the Kenya School of Government in Mombasa.
The PS underscored the significance of the induction course, specially curated to equip HRMAC members and the Secretariat with skills and knowledge essential for their roles.
She emphasized the key responsibility these members held in guiding the department on HR matters, aligning with directives issued by the Public Service Commission.
A central theme of the PS's address was the fundamental role of human resources (HR) in the State Department's triumph.
She stressed that HR's core duty lay in ensuring that individuals were appropriately placed in roles that suited them, adequately motivated, developed, and, above all, contributed effectively to the organization's overarching objectives.
Throughout the course, participants had the opportunity to delve into various crucial HR topics. These encompassed intricate subjects such as recruitment and selection processes, staff training and development, public service values, and integrity.
The program also provided comprehensive insights into disciplinary and grievance handling procedures, employment laws, labour relations, and union engagement.
PS reminded participants of the pivotal distinction between management and leadership. She stated, "Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things."
Her message urged participants to embody both facets in their roles, ensuring not only the efficiency of HR processes but also their alignment with the department's broader objectives.
The course addresses vital topics, including succession planning and management, performance management, staff welfare, health, and safety and places considerable emphasis on the importance of effective management communication within the department, highlighting the significance of transparent and efficient information flow.
The PS encouraged participants to recognize that the knowledge and skills they had acquired were not just for personal growth but powerful tools for the greater good of the department. She emphasized the pivotal role played by the HRMAC in shaping HR policies and practices, with the collective expertise of its members poised to enhance the organization's success significantly.
She urged open lines of communication, effective collaboration, and unwavering commitment to the values of integrity and transparency in advisory roles. She highlighted the pivotal role these qualities played in fostering a productive and harmonious work environment for the dedicated civil servants they served.
In closing, the Principal Secretary extended her gratitude to the administration of the Kenya School of Government through the DG Professor Ludeki Chweya for their unwavering dedication and commitment in delivering and facilitating the entire course. Their expertise and technical guidance were deeply valued and appreciated.
